Search tips

Entering a search term
The best is to enter the name of a person you are looking for in the search window.
Linking search terms
You can enter more than one search term (e.g. first name, last name, place, sport type, event name, and so on.), separated only by a blank space, to achieve better results.
Excluding search terms
Connect one or more search terms with the word ‘not’. For instance, the search Maier not Skiing will yield only the pictures with texts that do not include the term skiing.
Searching for phrases
Putting the phrase, you are searching for, in quotation marks will return results of pictures whose text contains that exact phrase.
Searching for the latest photos
Using the search term “last 100” will yield the latest 100 photos. The number can be changed depending on the desired result.
Searching for parts of words
If you are not sure how to spell a word, use as many letters as you are sure of and then replace the letter(s) you don’t know with an asterisk (*). For instance, if you are not sure whether it is Günther or Günter, simply search for Günt*.
Advanced Search
Choosing this option on the data bank allows you to limit your search by entering a date and choosing from various categories.
Showing the search results
As a standard, 30 photos (thumbnails) are shown with each page view. You can change the number yourself to show more or less.
Photo description
When you move the mouse cursor over a thumbnail the photo text will become visible
Preview
Clicking on a thumb¬nail will open a new window containing a larger view of the photo, and the entire photo text.
Hi-res download
Under each thumb¬nail there is a drop-down menu containing three options: (1) download as a JPEG file, (2) open the picture in a separate window and download it using ‘drag and drop’, and (3) add to shopping basket.
Shopping basket
We kindly ask you not to put more than 30 photos in the shopping basket in one session.
Automatic log out
If you are inactive on the data bank site for more than 30 minutes, you will be automatically logged out for security reasons.
